Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) is a high-temperature (Tm = 285°C) thermoplastic material that offers an excellent combination of thermal, mechanical and chemical resistance. It is inherently flame resistant and is virtually unaffected by a broad range of chemicals, even over prolonged periods and at elevated temperatures. It is commercially available in two varieties: branched (cross-linked and cured) and linear. Linear PPS is a second-generation product that offers easy processing, excellent lot-to-lot consistency and high strength and toughness. It is available in a range of molecular weights that allow it to be used in a variety of processes from thin section injection molding to blow molding. It also has low ionic impurities and is colorable.
